About Me
“I suffer from an unbelievable desire to be somewhere I’m not”
Darren Evans, 2024.
Firstly, I would like to say hello and thank you for visiting my website. Before I give you a brief insight into who I am and where I’m from, I think it’s important to tell you why I’ve decided to start blogging. The last trip I took before the pandemic started was a short break to Marrakech. Before I went, I read all the blogs I could find, just to familiarise myself with the city and get a feeling for what to expect when I arrived. I was left with the perception that it was a chaotic place full of scoundrels waiting to scam me out of all my money. “You should never make the mistake of stopping to chat to a local, it was bound to cost you”, so the mantra went. Why would I even want to go there? But here’s the truth, Marrakech is a wonderful place, I never felt threatened once and the locals were very welcoming (except one, read my blog). I’m not going to lie and say you won’t meet scammers, you will. They are however, the exception not the rule and easily avoided. I started to wonder if the people who had written some of the blogs had even visited Marrakech or just obtained all there information from google. Just read a few and you will see what I mean, they are all the same. Anyway, rant over, here is my story.
Nice office to do a bit of writing.
Embark on a journey through my lens and words, tracing back to 1984 when wanderlust took hold. Faced with job scarcity in Liverpool, I sought opportunities abroad, sparking a lifelong odyssey. Though parenthood temporarily tethered me, the allure of exploration never waned.
Now, with my children grown, I've reignited my passion for travel, photography, and writing. Every weekend is an escapade, a chance to capture Europe's essence through my lens. Yet, it's the annual grand voyages to exotic locales like Morocco, India, and soon, Central America, that truly ignite my spirit.
In a world where travel writing and photography often stand apart, I saw an opportunity to merge them. Thus, my recent book was born, a testament to the symbiotic relationship between visuals and prose. Available on Kindle, it's a culmination of my decades-long love affair with the world and its stories.
But the journey doesn't end there. I aspire to see my book in print, a tangible testament to the power of storytelling and imagery. Seeking a publisher who shares my vision, I aim to bring this fusion of art and narrative to a wider audience.
Join me as I navigate the globe, camera in hand, pen at the ready. Together, let's discover the beauty of our planet and the tales it yearns to tell.
